Patrick Swayze will always be remembered as THE Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing, a role which made him the romantic lead of the 90's.
Surprisingly, though he was a trained dancer, he was not the first choice for the role but his performance earned him award nominations and a place in the hearts of teenage girls of the 90's.
The 57-year-old shied away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, as he preferred the quiet life in his Californian hideaway, with his wife, Lisa, who he had been married to for 34 years.
He once said: "It's the cult movies that have given me a career for 30 years." Referring to the offers of many other parts, where he would have been playing the attractive, much-loved male lead. "It wouldn't have been worth it if I had been stuck as the leading man or the dance guy."
